What started as a "minor auto accident" led to a fight and deadly shooting inside a North Philadelphia pizza shop in what Philadelphia said was possibly a case of road rage. Police officers rushed to Pete's Pizza along Ridge Avenue -- near Master Street - around midnight to find a man bleeding from a gunshot wound to his head in the takeout area of the pizza place, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. As the union representing the operators of SEPTA's Philadelphia subway, trolley and buses continues to negotiate a new deal, a strike on a second front looms for the transit agency and it could bring service in the suburbs to a halt. SMART Local 1594, the union that represents SEPTA workers in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, could go on strike at the end of Monday.

Smoke could be seen coming from a burning Center City high-rise apartment in Philadelphia overnight as residents streamed out onto the sidewalk below. The fire -- which appeared to have started in a second-floor unit -- forced residents of the Adelphia House at 13th and Chestnut streets outside after it broke out around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2024. One woman was hospitalized with smoke inhalation, firefighters said. All other residents and pets made it out of the smoky blaze, authorities said.
