The Chicago Plan Commission approved on Thursday a controversial project that will transform a riverfront tract on the North Side just west of the Julia C. Lathrop Homes public housing development into a luxury housing community. Some community members worry that planting 35 townhomes on the vacant site, once zoned for manufacturing, could push out the neighborhood’s remaining manufacturers and the jobs they provide.

Mixed-use mega-developments and corporate relocations are happening in most major US cities, especially in the Midwest. In Chicago, it will continue, Rahm or no Rahm. One guy is never that important.

Very curious about what will happen with Lincoln Yards and other mixed-use mega-developments. Rahm was a driving force behind these sweeping, large-scale mega-developments and corporate relocations, both of which will remain a big part of Rahm's legacy
