It's October in Houston, which means the weather should start cooling off and it's time to come up with costumes and decorate for Halloween. Families can pick out pumpkins, play outdoors and take plenty of fall photos at a variety of pumpkin patches around the Houston region. Some serve as church fundraisers and others coincide with annual fall festivals that feature several other kid-friendly activities and attractions.

A new citywide effort by Houston-area organizations is aiming to help more than 300,000 Houston-area immigrants overcome financial and language barriers associated with gaining citizenship. City leaders and members of Houston naturalization organizations gathered ahead of a Tuesday evening council meeting to introduce the project that will provide resources for thousands of Houston residents looking to gain U.S. citizenship, which some said is becoming increasingly difficult.

The City of Houston is asking residents to conserve water under its stage 2 Drought Contingency Plan. Effective Sunday August 27, residents are restricted to only using outside water between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. two days a week. Stage 2 is implemented when there's a significant drop in rainfall along with higher-than-normal temperatures.
