Home sales increased for first time since early 2022, real estate expert says | Houston Public Media

The Houston housing market rebounded from a prolonged slump in November, with sales rising for the first time in 19 months. The Houston Association of Realtors reported sales were up 4.9% last month, the first increase since March of 2022. It is the first real glimmer of hope for a market that has suffered with high mortgage rates, low inventory and high home prices. Mortgage rates have eased slightly over the past month, a factor in the latest bump in sales.

Frank Borman, who commanded two early NASA missions including the first to orbit the moon, has died at age 95. In a statement, NASA said Borman died Nov. 7 in Billings, Mont. after a stroke. His death comes a week after fellow Apollo astronaut, Ken Mattingly, died. NASA’s oldest living astronaut, Borman was best known for his no-nonsense demeanor and said he cared more about beating the Soviet Union in the space race than personal glory.

As the holiday season approaches, residents will be able to drop off their Halloween pumpkins this week as the City of Houston holds its third annual Pumpkin Composting Drop-off event. At-Large Council Member, Sallie Alcorn, said the city is happy to take in Houstonian's discarded pumpkins and fillings to recycle into compost.

The Houston area offers an array of celebratory events before, on and after Diwali, which this year falls on Nov. 12 and marks the beginning of the Hindu new year.
