GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two men accused of conspiring to murder a third man in Grand Rapids in 2023 have been ordered to stand trial. After the fourth day of a preliminary hearing, a judge on Friday decided there was enough evidence to send Tyriq Bettison and Dominike Sterling’s case to trial, an attorney told News 8. The co-defendants are charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Darryl Yarber, who was shot to death Nov. 6, 2023.

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — It’s hard to predict exactly what to expect when you open a new business. For a new bookstore in Walker, calling the grand opening successful would be an understatement. “We opened on Saturday, June 21, and the turnout was wild. We did not expect that at all,” Sarah Gramza-Howard said, standing next to her business partner Jess Hodges. The two stocked more than 1,000 books in preparation for the grand opening of their new bookstore Pages & Peonies on Alpine Avenue near I-96.

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An 18-year-old is facing a weapons charge after court documents allege he fired a weapon outside an apartment complex in Alpine Township Sunday morning. Santiago Barajas was charged Tuesday with a count of carrying a concealed weapon. He is being held on $100,000 bond cash or surety. During arraignment, the judge decided against a personal recognizance bond because the weapon may have been used in a homicide.
