Thoughts, prayers and well wishes from throughout Mansfield, north central and beyond will accompany the Mansfield native in the 2025 Iditarod Sled Dog Race across the wide expanse of Alaska.

GALION — Galion Intermediate School is thrilled to announce that one of its talented 4th-grade students, Lillyana Breckenridge, has been selected to perform with the All-State Children’s Chorus at the upcoming Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Professional Development Conference on February 6, 2025. Lillyana submitted an online audition in May 2024, where she showcased her vocal talents. In September, she was notified of her acceptance to join 130 exceptional young singers across Ohio.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Vice President-elect JD Vance is resigning from his seat representing Ohio in the U.S. Senate, effective Friday at the stroke of midnight. The first-term senator has to resign from his seat before he and President-elect Donald Trump are sworn into office on January 20. Trump and Vance defeated the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in the Nov. 5 general election.

GALION — The Galion Board of Education met on Tuesday, January 7th. The first order of business was to recognize those students and staff members who exemplify the trait Empathy, as described in the district’s Portrait of a Tiger. The following students were nominated by their teachers: 9th grader Christian Kentosh, 6th grader Bentley Price, 5th grader Ruger Helton and 2nd grader Makhielyn Swango.
