Mansfield City Schools moved forward with a second reduction-in-force at its Tuesday night board meeting, eliminating an additional eight teaching positions and a school counselor job. The job cuts take effect Aug. 1 — the day after the end of the union’s contract year.
Lucas Local Schools seeks operating levy renewal

LUCAS — An operating levy is up for renewal in the Lucas Local School district. Voters will decide whether or not to continue a five-year, six mill operating levy. The levy generates $961,000 annually and costs property owners approximately $210 for each $100,000 of property value. The levy was first approved by voters in May 2010, according to Lucas Supt. Brad Herman. School district residents renewed the levy in November 2014 and 2019.

COLUMBUS — In honor of the life and service of Town and Country Fire District Lieutenant Paul Charles Mickolick, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be flown at half-staff. Mickolick, 43, with the Town and County Fire District, died as a result of injuries incurred while trying to help a motorist stuck in a ditch. Mickolick and Tylor James Green, 33, of West Salem, were both struck by a passing motorist.
Richland County's Imagination Library program short on funds

MANSFIELD — More than 4,100 children in Richland County receive a free book every month through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. That program is now at risk of ending due to a funding shortfall. Julie Chaya, commissioner of Richland Public Health, said there is about five months’ worth of local matching funds needed to keep the program running. “We’re in crisis mode,” Chaya said.
Emergency responder killed while assisting motorist in Wayne County

WEST SALEM — An emergency responder was killed on Friday night while assisting a motorist in Congress Township, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Lieutenant Paul Charles Mickolick, 43, with the Town and County Fire District, died as a result of his injuries, the Patrol reported. He was one of two people struck by a passing motorist. Tylor James Green, 33, of West Salem, was ground transported to the Cleveland Clinic Lodi Hospital by Town and County Fire and EMS.
