LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) β Day one wrapped up in a trial tied to a deadly shooting in the Hill City. A jury began hearing the case against Travon Brunson, who is accused of shooting and killing Tajuan Johnson in April of 2024. According to the Commonwealth, Brunson shot and killed Johnson after a disagreement turned violent in the parking lot outside of Mizumi Japanese Restaurant. Lawyers argued that Johnson shoved Brunson, who, in turn, shot and killed him.

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. (WSET) β Volunteers are once again testing the water quality at Smith Mountain Lake. They began in May and have just released the first results. The report found the water clarity isn't as great as historical averages, due to heavy rain at the beginning of May. The samples collected are given to environmental scientists at Ferrum College. They look for water clarity, chlorophyll, and phosphorus.

To mark the occasion, the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford will be hosting a commemoration ceremony on Friday.
