    Students from Kelowna's Rutland Senior Secondary were praised on social media for quick thinking after finding an abandoned campfire. Okanagan Forest Task Force President Kane Blake made the post, stating the forestry class was assisting with a clean at the Postill Shooting Range on June 11.   According to Blake, the fire "had started to travel along the ground into the roots of cedar trees." The students alerted task force members to the blaze and the fire was extinguished.

    Country Music Week is coming to Kelowna for the first time and with it will be a two-day music festival. The Canadian Country Music Association has partnered up with Thick as Thieves Entertainment, organizers of Denim on the Diamond, to host an outdoor, live music festival Sept. 12-13. Details of the festival are expected to come soon. People can watch for updates and ticket sales online. Country Music Week starts Sept. 10 and promises four days of fun blending local talents with big names.

Lytton was the hottest place to be in B.C. on June 8, registering at 39.3 C. A special weather statement remains in place for southwestern B.C. and the West Kootenays. Temperatures are expected to drop back down on Thursday, June 12.

    Kamloops RCMP have issued a notice under the Privacy Act of Canada to let the public know a "dangerous sex offender" is living in the community. Taylor Dueck, 30, has a decade-long history of sexual offence-related convictions and is considerred "mentally handicapped." He has been previously convicted of sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, and sexual interference of a person under 16 for incidents that took place in Abbotsford and Kelowna.
