ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A trial date has been rescheduled for February 5, 2024, for David Westmoreland, a former Rapides Parish probation officer charged in a deadly hit and run on Horseshoe Drive in Alexandria, in which Alexandria police said he was intoxicated. Westmoreland is charged with vehicular homicide and hit and run for the May 1, 2021 crash that killed 48-year-old Donnie Cayer. Cayer was riding his bicycle with his son when Westmoreland’s truck hit him.

BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) - The Louisiana Board of Pardons has declined to move forward the first five death row applications during administrative reviews Friday in Baton Rouge. This comes after an agreement was reached last week between the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, district attorneys throughout the state, the Louisiana Board of Pardons and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections to hold reviews instead of actual hearings first.

BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) - The future of 56 death row inmates in Louisiana who have asked Gov. John Bel Edwards to consider commuting their sentence to life in prison is now in limbo after a settlement agreement was reached this week between the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, district attorneys throughout the state, the Louisiana Board of Pardons and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A trial date has been set for a Luling, Louisiana man charged with manslaughter for a January 20 deadly shooting in the 500 block of Magnolia Street in Alexandria. Desmond Clowers, Sr., 46, will head to trial on November 27 for the death of 34-year-old Alfred Jerome King. King was found lying on the ground in front of the apartments on Magnolia Street. He had been shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
