Lexington County Council had the third and final reading of the 2025-26 fiscal year budget, finalizing the numbers in time for the start of the new fiscal year on July 1. There is no millage increase. One councilman, however, voted no during the second and final readings of the budget, saying there should be more funding allocated for road improvements.

The Town of Lexington made its appointment to the Penny Sales Tax Commission during the June 2 meeting. Council unanimously appointed Edwin Gerace. Decision time for the penny tax likely would not take place until 2026, according to earlier reporting from the Chronicle, and if voters approve it, the Capital Project Sales Tax (CPST) would impose a 1% sales tax on most purchases made by anyone in Lexington County, except on items such as groceries, gasoline and prescriptions.
