June 30 is fast approaching, and that means local governing bodies are working towards having a balanced budget ready for the next fiscal year starting July 1. Here’s a glimpse at Lexington County’s and other local entities’ budget processes. County leaders during the March 25 meeting said they are in the request phase. This means they are currently hearing requests pertaining to the budget from various departments. By April 22, they expect to have a recommended budget presented to council.

Situated behind Kohl’s and Five Below off Sunset Boulevard in the town of Lexington is the area’s new age-restricted active adult community. Named Cross Creek, this neighborhood has 53 lots anyone 55 years or older (this includes couples where one is 55 or older and the other is under 55) can start exploring now to see if it’s the right fit for them. With the potential for 13 more lots in the future, this active adult community will feature a pickleball court upon completion.

Initial steps have been taken to ease some road congestion in the area many Michelin and Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative employees get off Interstate 20 to head to work. Lexington County Council voted unanimously to start narrowing down a way to ease traffic in that area using the section of Calks Ferry Road that goes over Interstate 20 in Lexington County.

ALLTAPE Adhesive Manufacturing Inc. can officially get the ball rolling on its promise to bring the Midlands — Lexington County in particular — 130 jobs and a $70 million investment. The item has been on Lexington County Council agendas under the name Project Aqua for a few meetings now but underwent its third and final go-around with the council on March 11.
