    The Skoda Elroq is among the 10 favourite cars of German private buyers in April. 81,557 new cars were sold to Germany private buyers in April for a 33.6% private sales ratio (PSR). This is up 1% on April 2024 when the PSR was 33.2%. Year-to-date, private sales are up 3.1% to 307,574 for a  33.9% PSR vs. 31.8% a year ago. Like last month, the Fiat Duacto is the favourite of private buyers with a 55.2% PSR ratio as camper van building gears up in the lead to summer.

    The Renault Symbioz outsells the Captur for the first time. Another disappointing month for French new car sales, down -5.6% year-on-year in April to 138,694 and leading to a year-to-date tally off -7.3% to 548,779. The only channels showing growth are tactical: short term rentals and self registrations whereas private and fleet sales collapse. More concerning, private leases sink by over 20% this month. SUVs are dominant once again with over 52% share.

    The BYD Seal U is only outsold by the Renault Clio in April. 105,352 new light vehicles found a buyer in Turkiye in April, a spectacular 38.8% year-on-year surge and a new record for the month, the first time above 100,000 units and eclipsing the previous April best of 97,679 in April 2023. The year-to-date tally is now in positive at 381,626, also a new record for the period  beating the 371,438 units of last year.

    The Mercedes GLC is also #1 year-to-date in Switzerland. It’s a disappointing month for the Swiss new car market with sales off -6.9% year-on-year in April to 18,664. This way, the year-to-date tally after four months is down -7.6% to 71,354. Sales of electrified vehicles defy the negative context and all end the month in positive. HEVs are up 7.2% to 6,841 and 36.7% share vs. 31.8% a year ago, PHEVs grow 15.3% to 1,975 and 10.6% share vs. 8.5% and BEVs are up 9.5% to 18.6% share vs. 15.9%.

    The Jeep Avenger is up to a record 2nd place overall in April. The Italian new car market edges up 2.7% year-on-year in April to 139,084 units, meaning the year-to-date tally is now stable at -0.6% to 583,038. BEVs are up 108.1% to 6,667 sales and 4.8% share while PHEVs shoot up 77.4% to 8,036 and 5.7% share. Meanwhile HEVs are up 14% to 62,006 and 44.3% share, including 17,825 full hybrids (+12.7%) and 44,180 mild hybrids (+11.3%). Private sales fall -5.6% to 65,852 and 47% share vs.
