State lawmakers are trying to make changes to the state's mandatory e-check program. The program requires millions of registered cars in Northeast Ohio to get an emissions check every two years. Currently, the program is in place for seven counties in Ohio. The e-check program began back in the 1990s as a way for the state to comply with the air quality standards set by the Clean Air Act. State lawmakers have tried multiple times in recent years to end the program.

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — A new traffic pattern in Cuyahoga Falls goes into effect Tuesday as construction continues along South Front Street. The city said north and south bound traffic will be maintained by shifting both directions of travel to the west side of Front Street between Broad Boulevard and Grant Avenue. On-street parking will also be prohibited in the affected area. This is all due to the ongoing construction for the South Front Street Streetscape Transformation.

NORTHEAST OHIO — The Ohio Department of Transportation will begin work on the Interstate 271 northbound exit at Cedar and Brainard Roads on Monday. ODOT said the exit ramp is getting a much-needed makeover to improve safety and reduce slowdowns and stops on I-271. The city of Pepper Pike said that right now, the Cedar Road exit frequently experiences significant backups.

CANTON, Ohio — The Perry Drive Improvement Project continues in Canton. Crews began widening the area between State Route 172 and Southway Street last year. At the end of the project, a turn lane will be in the center of the road along with new sidewalks and street lighting for pedestrians. Until then, it's causing some problems for local businesses. Doug Ehert works at one of those businesses. He's the president of Tier One Car and Truck Accessories.

OHIO — The penalties for driving while intoxicated have gotten harsher in the Buckeye State. Liv's Law is now in effect in Ohio. It targets repeat offenders by giving courts the authority to impose enhanced sentences on offenders with previous OVI convictions if they are found guilty of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault or involuntary manslaughter. The law introduced a tiered system that increased the mandatory minimum prison sentences based on the number and nature of the offenses.
