Today, we are looking back on the final days of a former major factory site in Bury St Edmunds. The Boby Industrial Estate was once a familiar sight alongside Parkway, but by the late 1980s its days were numbered. On April 22, 1988, the Bury Free Press reported that demolition work was continuing on two derelict buildings on the estate. The work fuelled fresh rumours that a supermarket would be built on the site.

Scaffolding has been installed and a footpath is closed in Bury St Edmunds while a significant heritage project gets under way. Scaffolding has been put up around the Abbey wall, in Mustow Street, in preparation for extensive English Heritage works. The organisation confirmed this week that the scaffolding would remain in place over the summer, ‘marking the beginning of a significant conservation initiative at the historic Abbey’.

A former Essex Police officer from Ipswich has been jailed for four and-a-half years after admitting a series of online child sexual offences. Former Pc Mark Ling, 38, formerly of Ipswich, had pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual communications with a child and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity at Ipswich Crown Court on January 18.

Residents of a Bury St Edmunds housing estate are being treated like ‘second-class citizens’ it is claimed after an ‘Uber-style’ minbus service was cancelled at short notice. The Marham Park Flyer is set to run its last service next month after the estate’s developer, which had been funding the minibus, pulled the plug. The cancellation means the 1,100-home estate will be left with no public transport – despite bus stops being installed around the estate when it was built.
