On Saturday evening, Banham Zoo held its latest after-hours Zoo Doo, welcoming more than 2,500 visitors. Last year’s evening events were a sell-out success, so this year I went along with my eight-year-old daughter Clara, her friend Quinn and mum, Serena, to see what all the fuss was about.

An Enigma machine and an SAS dagger were two of the highlights of an event to mark the 80th anniversary of a Bury St Edmunds-based military association on Sunday. A lunch at Risbygate Sports Club marked the milestone of the Bury branch of the Royal Artillery Association. The event, attended by 34 people, included a long-service presentation to the president, a meet and greet in the bar, an official welcome and a three-course meal, followed by a talk by historical speaker Paul Hunt.

Car parking charges have been introduced at three forest sites near Brandon and Thetford due to rising costs. Visitors using the Forestry England car parks at Santon Downham, Lynford Stag and Lynford Water now have to pay. A spokesman for Forestry England said: “We provide hundreds of car parks, maintain thousands of miles of trails, footpaths and bridges and look after benches, signs and information and a wide range of other facilities for visitors. “Rising costs are unsustainable.
