An environmental impact assessment is not needed for a proposed commercial solar farm and battery energy storage system in Brandon, planners have decided. West Suffolk Council, which was considering the Enironmental Impact Assessment (EIA) screening opinion application for the proposed solar farm over three fields on the Brandon Fields Estate, issued its decision yesterday.

Roadworks to improve safety and driver awareness in Weeting with Broomhill, near Brandon, will take place next week. Norfolk County Council will be working in Brandon Road and Lynn Road from Tuesday to Friday to install new signs and lining. The works, which coincide with a new traffic regulation order to extend the existing 30mph zone by 300 metres north-west and reduce the 40mph zone by the same distance, are part of a £35,000 local safety scheme to improve driver awareness.

These days this key Suffolk route is better known for its flooding problems, but 40 years ago it was a different scenario. Having opened in the summer of 1984, Compiegne Way, in Bury St Edmunds, was then the new link road connecting the A143 with the St Saviour’s Interchange of the A45 (later renamed the A14).

A long-running festival showcasing ‘all the colourful aspects of life’ is moving to a new home in Suffolk, near Thetford, this summer. The Maui Festival will take over the grounds of Elveden Hall for the three day, four night showcase of international music and performance arts over the late summer bank holiday weekend, from August 22-24.
