    MOREHEAD CITY — The Morehead City Marlins are seeking an extension and renegotiation of their license with the city, which expires at the end of this year. The collegiate summer baseball team is part of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) and plays its home games at O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead. The team began play in the CPL in the 2010 season and competes in the league's East division.

    CARTERET COUNTY — The Carteret County Board of Commissioners approved a final fiscal year 2025-26 budget Monday that includes a tax rate of 22.5 cents, or 1.5 cents above the revenue neutral rate. The board approved a motion from Commissioner Chuck Shinn to adopt the proposed budget as presented at the board’s May 19 meeting while including an extra $500,000 for the school system and moving the tax rate from 34 cents to 22.5 cents. kAm%96 >@E:@?

    CARTERET COUNTY — Carteret County teachers turned out in force at the May meeting of the  Board of Commissioners to request an increase in their local salary supplements. Local educators spoke during the public comments portion of the meeting, with many pointing out that the school systems in surrounding counties offer a higher rate of pay for staff.
