    MOREHEAD CITY — The Morehead City Police Department has introduced a new four-legged member, K9 Horan, who will be working with MCPD Officer Tim Estep. K9 Horan’s name holds special meaning for local law enforcement. He is named after Greensboro Police Officer Michael Horan, who was killed in the line of duty in December 2024. Horan and Officer Estep were best friends since they attended the police academy together in 2017.

    MOREHEAD CITY — Carteret Health Care (CHC) has announced its merger with Carolinas Center for Surgery, which will go under the new name Carteret Health Care Surgical Group. The change became effective on May 12. According to CHC, patients will continue to receive the same care from the surgical providers, advanced practice providers, and staff, who will now be supported by the integrated services of Carteret Health Care and its greater access to resources, technology, and coordinated care.

    BEAUFORT — Beaufort’s proposed fiscal year 2026 budget includes $20.7 million in total funding, a decrease of approximately $700,000 from the current year’s approved budget. The proposed budget was presented by Town Manager Matt Zapp during the May 12 meeting of the Beaufort Board of Commissioners. During their May 20 meeting, the board will consider a request submitted by The Cullipher Group, P.A., on behalf of Spooners Creek Townes, LLC, for preliminary plat review and approval for “The Townes at Spooner’s Creek”, a 118-unit multifamily development proposed to be located at 301 NC 24 and an adjacent unaddressed parcel.
