MOREHEAD CITY — About 625 county fourth-graders are exploring the history of Carteret County through a unique interactive program at the History Museum of Carteret County. Museum staff and volunteers have created four interactive stations that teach students about various aspects of the county’s history, from the livelihood of early settlers to the fishing industry. The program, History Exploration Days, began March 19 and will continue through April 30.

BOGUE — The Bogue planning board, following a closed session Thursday night in the town hall, voted 4-1 to recommend that the town council not approve a special-use permit to allow outdoor entertainment at Bogue Sound Distillery. The planning board, at its April 3 meeting, had voted to discuss the request from Bogue Sound Distillery owner Richard Chapman in closed session April 11.

MOREHEAD CITY — The Carteret Community College Board of Trustees approved an updated master facilities plan for 2025-30 that includes multiple projects that are either underway or that officials are eying over the next five years. Trustees approved the plan, by an 11-1 vote, during their meeting April 9 in the CCC Foundation Building boardroom. MOREHEAD CITY — The Carteret Community College Board of Trustees adopted a $3.65 million 2025-26 county operations budget request Wednesday which is 7% more than was approved for this fiscal year. While the college also normally approves its facilities, or capital request, at the same time, Dee Meshaw, chair of the trustees’ finance committee, said the committee wanted to wait to get more information.
