St. Joseph County, Ind. (WNDU) - There were at least a dozen barns burned down across Michiana from April to September of 2021, but only one of those arsons happened here in St. Joseph County. Over two years after their barn was burned to the ground, one family is still asking why charges have still not been filed in their case. For Debbie Schmidt, it’s a “quest for justice”. The barn where her family made decades of memories was leveled by a fire on May 3, 2021.

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - A man who is already serving a lengthy prison sentence for setting eight barns on fire in Elkhart County in 2021 is getting more prison time for his role in three other barn fires that same year in Kosciusko County. As part of a plea agreement, Joseph Hershberger pleaded guilty to three counts of arson and was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for each count.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - 16 News Now Investigates is learning what caused three patients at a former rehab center in Mishawaka to die within a one-week timespan earlier this year. The patient deaths were reported at the Landmark Recovery center on Bodnar Boulevard between July 3 and July 9. Autopsies have been completed on those patients, and 16 News Now Investigates has obtained those results through a public records request.

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. (WNDU) - A class ring is back home with its owner in Berrien Springs after being lost for more than two decades. Despite belonging to Berrien Springs alum John Leath, the ring was found by a woman hundreds of miles away. Leath had asked his aunt to hang onto the ring for him during some tough times. Though she put it in her jewelry box, it came up missing after she developed some health issues. Leath says that was 25 years ago.
