EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island officials are starting to make preparations for the 2026 World Cup. The international soccer tournament will be played in 16 host cities, with 104 games happening across Mexico, Canada and the United States. Boston was selected as a host city, so seven games will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The stadium is slated to undergo extensive renovations ahead of the tournament and will temporarily be named "Boston Stadium" for the World Cup matches.

(WPRI) - The Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) unveiled its most recent study on several ancient shipwrecks off of Newport - of which one may be a famous sailing vessel scuttled more than two centuries ago. The Newport Transport Report details RIMAP's latest fieldwork and analysis of a shipwreck site that is believed to be the final resting place of the HMS Endeavour, a British Royal Navy research vessel that sank in the 1778 blockade of Narragansett Bay.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Feeling lucky? Not so fast. Before playing Mega Millions in hopes of striking it rich, there are some big changes you may want to be aware of. While it's still possible to hit it big, the cost of entry will soon increase. Across Southern New England, the price of a Mega Millions ticket will more than double, rising from $2 to $5 each. The jackpot game announced that all 45 participating states will see a ticket price increase in the coming days.

(WPRI) - Professional arborists are urging homeowners to exercise caution while working in their yards after a tree fell on top of and killed a West Warwick man last week. West Warwick Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Eric Norberg told 12 News the man was cutting the tree when it fell and crushed him. The man suffered several traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
