After shaking off the initial shock of the news that MCI-Concord will close as soon as June — opening new frontiers for the redevelopment of the sprawling property — town officials are moving to the strategy stage. “How will the state dispose of the property? Their time was up: Concord’s three surviving tercentenary markers were pulled up Thursday morning. Two of the signs — “The Milldam” and “Jethro’s Tree” — were removed from Concord Center. The other, “The First Settlement,” was pulled out of its spot on Lexington Road near Orchard House.

When Jodi Dakin Loughlin’s Vizsla, Tenney, plunged through the ice of a pond near her home, her dog walker rushed to the rescue.  Tenney is “very lucky to be safe and sound after a heroic rescue at the end of our street,” a grateful Loughlin said. Shauna Butler of Walden Pet Services and Tenney were out for a stroll last Friday morning near Balls Hill Road when the 6-year-old dog “ran out onto the ice, likely chasing a bird or animal. The ice was thin in the middle, and she fell through.

The Massachusetts Port Authority blew deadlines to give Concord records on a controversial proposed hangar expansion at Hanscom Field, a lawyer for the town says, spurring the filing of an appeal to get those documents and find out what’s in them.  “Massport’s not going to answer our questions because I say so, pretty please, on some perfumed stationery,” attorney Gregor McGregor told The Concord Bridge of the appeal.

Help wanted: Concord is preparing to take another deep dive into how its centuries-old form of self-governance works for the voters of today.  “The time is right for this. I think it’s been 30 years since we’ve done an in-depth, thoughtful study of the open Town Meeting process, [and] I think that all of us are aware that there have been changes in our community,” Town Moderator Carmin Reiss told the Select Board at a recent meeting.
