KEW GARDENS, Queens (WABC) -- Authorities announced the takedown of an auto theft ring, targeting all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and beyond. The massive crackdown was carried out by New York State Police and the NYPD, in Howard Beach, Queens. The location was just one of nine across New York City. Twenty people have been indicted as the ring leaders and masterminds behind 126 stolen vehicles from across the five boroughs, Long Island and New Jersey.

BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A smoky three-alarm fire burned through a store in Brooklyn, leaving residents in the apartments above homeless. Fire appears to have broken out inside Savon Shoes, a first-floor store on 13th Avenue at 39th Street in Borough Park just after 2 a.m. Monday. Heavy smoke spewed through the building, forcing people to evacuate. Some residents reported smelling gas and hearing an explosion at the time of the fire. No one was injured.

The main concern is unpredictable and uncontrollable fires that firefighters in the county are just not trained to deal with. The rally was held by County Executive Bruce Blakeman to oppose placing a lithium-ion battery warehouse on Long Island.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- There's a new street drug that is proving to be deadly and Eyewitness News got an inside look at the lab where agents are making it a top priority. "The leading cause of death among Americans 18 to 45 is drug overdoses and poisonings," said Frank Tarentino, NY DEA Special Agent in Charge. Tarentino says fentanyl continues to be the most common deadly substance. He says less than a pinch, an example Eyewitness News saw in a vial, just 2 milligrams, could take a life.
