2 1/1 Communities across Test Valley are gearing up to mark the 80th Victory in Europe (VE) Day anniversary in a big way. Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) has awarded more than £21,900 in community grants to 52 local organisations for the occasion. The money will help fund street parties, afternoon teas, musical performances, and reflective services, all aimed at bringing people together to honour the sacrifices made during the Second World War.

Cllr Alison Johnston, portfolio holder for climate emergency and countryside Test Valley Borough Council has been awarded an additional £77,000 for rural business grants. The funding, from the UK Government's Rural England Prosperity Fund, will be used for capital projects. Grants ranging from £10,000 to £20,000 will be available to both new and existing rural businesses.

10 1/1 ANDOVER marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a flag raising ceremony, live music and cream teas. To honour the day the Second World War came to an end in Europe in 1945, events were organised in Andover on Thursday, May 8. At 9am, there was a flag raising ceremony and VE Day proclamation at the Guildhall.

6 1/1 A SHOPPING centre jewellery shop will close this month, with no reason given other than the lease coming to an end. Warren James, in the Chantry Centre, has not responded to comment, but the sign outside its unit announcing a "closing down sale" said it was "due to end of lease." The Andover branch of the UK-wide jewellery chain will close on Saturday, May 17. According to another sign, the store remains open despite its shutters being broken.
