To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Addy is recognising the women who are the unsung ‘sheroes’ of Greater Geelong and the Surf Coast. From doctors, nurses and business owners, to volunteers and teachers, women play many integral roles in keeping the wheels of our community in motion. Neisha Hall-Sullivan is the acting associate director of clinical services at Epworth Geelong and is responsible for patients receiving critical care at the hospital.

They’re the Geelong residents who spend hours at the gym pumping iron and sculpting their muscles while their hardcore diets reveal an enviable set of chiselled abs. Juanito Ramos took out last year’s unique title of Geelong’s best male gym buff. The 20-year-old said he enjoyed his reign with the crown. “It’s been good fun,” Mr Ramos said. “When I go to the gym, it’s a lifestyle but a hobby as well … to have a bit of reward for effort is good. Mr Ramos said he “never expected” to win the title.

Professor Margaret Cameron AM died on September 29 after a long battle with dementia, aged 86. Prof Cameron was born in Queensland and began her career as a librarian in 1959. In 1977, she moved to Geelong and worked as Deakin University’s foundation librarian until 1996.
