The threat of a bushfire burning near an Otway town has been reduced, after authorities warned residents to leave earlier in the day. The Country Fire Authority (CFA) issued a watch and act message to residents near Gellibrand about 7pm. “People located within the area are now able to resume normal activities,” it read. Earlier in the day, the CFA had issued a ‘leave now’ warning to locals.

Residents in a pair of small Otway towns have been told to leave now as a bushfire rages nearby. The Country Fire Authority (CFA) issued a watch and act message to residents near Gellibrand about 2.30pm. “Don’t wait, leaving now is the safest option – conditions may change and get worse very quickly,” the alert read. “Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.

Budget airline Bonza has again failed to get off the ground, as negotiations with aircraft lenders have stalled. In a statement, Bonza announced all flights from May 8 to 14 would be cancelled and staff would remain stood down in the period. This comes after Bonza administrators Hall Chadwick announced on Friday that it had stood down staff and cancelled flights up until Tuesday following the grounding of its aircraft.

They’re the Geelong residents who spend hours at the gym pumping iron and sculpting their muscles while their hardcore diets reveal an enviable set of chiselled abs. Juanito Ramos took out last year’s unique title of Geelong’s best male gym buff. The 20-year-old said he enjoyed his reign with the crown. “It’s been good fun,” Mr Ramos said. “When I go to the gym, it’s a lifestyle but a hobby as well … to have a bit of reward for effort is good. Mr Ramos said he “never expected” to win the title.

Could Geelong have a new name to add to its long list of champions? We will know on Sunday, when one of the world’s most gruelling endurance events finishes up in the middle of nowhere, in a landlocked East Asian country almost 9000km away. Local horse trainer Judith Jaeckle is currently in the Mongolian wilderness, somewhere north of the Gobi desert and south of the capital city Ulaanbaatar, with only a horse and a GPS.
