The band took first place at the 29th annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival in New York City — an honor only the top 15 high school jazz bands in the country even get the chance to compete for. The event is hosted by Jazz at Lincoln Center, and it’s considered one of the most prestigious competitions of its kind.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A family in Memphis is picking up the pieces after strong storms rolled through Sunday, bringing down a large tree onto their home. The tree came crashing down on a house in Parkway Village along Castleman Street near Knight Arnold, punching through the roof and leaving a gaping hole above the living room. Significant damage could be seen from the street, with the porch partially crushed and the front door barely accessible. Inside, water damage has already started to set in.
