In a surprising twist, a Kent seaside town previously labelled as one of the worst in the UK has now been named one of the best. According to new research by My Baggage, the scenic seaside town has been deemed the UK's most desirable place to move to in 2025.

Drivers are facing rush-hour delays on the M25 in Kent this evening (April 24) due to a vehicle fire. Traffic was temporarily held clockwise because of the blaze between junction 4 for Orpington and junction 5 for Chipstead and the M26. Traffic was released at around 5.40pm but two lanes remain closed. National Highways says there is around four miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 30 minutes above usual journey times.

Homes in the ME11 postcode area sold for an average of £224,167 each in the 12 months to the end of February. That’s less than any postcode area in our county with at least 20 sales over the past year. New figures from the Land Registry have identified the ME11 postcode as Kent's cheapest place to live.

Scores of banks have vanished from Kent high streets since the launch of an initiative designed to protect access to cash - with more set to close this year or in 2026. Last week Santander announced it is shutting 95 branches across the UK from June. Last month Lloyds announced it was closing 137 of its brands’ branches between May this year and March 2026.
