Tree pollen is at its worst in April and May as the trees start to bloom with more sunlight and warmer weather. As of now, tree pollen is high, and if you have allergies, you may be noticing them. When it comes to allergy season, major factors that can spread pollen or make it worse are windy and dry conditions.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Temperatures have been feeling more like March the past few days, and some spots could see a little snow Thursday night. It is not unusual to have snow in April in western Massachusetts. Looking back at records starting in 1945 at Westover Air Base, the top five April snowfall totals are:April 6, 1982 – 13.4″April 1, 1997 – 10″April 10, 1996 – 5.7″April 8, 1956 – 4.6″April 4, 2016 – 4″The average snowfall for April at Westover Airbase is 1.6 inches.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – April has been off to a wet and cool start, and so far, above average when it comes to the season to date rainfall in western Massachusetts. This spring, it has been an above average trend with over 4 inches of rain in the month of March alone. April can be one of the wettest months of the year, with an average of 3.7 inches, and in just 8 days into the month, it is already around one inch.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Wind Advisory is in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday for all of western Massachusetts. Gusts to 50mph are possible. Some icy surfaces are possible Tuesday morning. Give yourself a few extra minutes for the morning commute. The wind will start to pick up mid-morning. Our peak gusts over 40mph will be in the mid-afternoon. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 40s. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds with the chance for a few passing flurries.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden Counties until 9am Monday morning. Monday will be a mostly cloudy and warmer day with scattered showers. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s. It will also become breezy. On Monday night, rain that could be moderate to heavy at times with the chance of thunder. Most of the rain falls before midnight. Lows will be in the upper 30s and low 40s.
