FLORENCE — It's almost Bo time in downtown Florence. Renovations continue at the walk-up Bojangles at 130 S. Irby St. The restaurant should open in early summer, Public Relations Account Executive Katie Combs said in an email. The downtown Florence restaurant was announced in July 2024. It was scheduled to open in late fall 2024, but renovations took longer than anticipated. Among the chicken chain's more than 800 locations, the downtown Bojangles will be unique.

FLORENCE — The path to a new hockey team for Florence started 11 years ago on social media. The Bring Hockey Back to Florence Facebook page launched January 2014 in the hope that Pee Dee residents could show minor league hockey organizations there was a fervent fan base waiting for a local team.

FLORENCE — Kathy and Mike Femminella will soon bring a taste of Italy to Florence. Their restaurant, Positano Italian Specialty Foods, will serve food with ingredients straight from Italy and offer catering. Mike Femminella, who's from Italy, promises the food will be authentic. "It will be the most authentic Italian food. We will have the quality and good service to the customer," he said.

FLORENCE — Drop the puck. Professional hockey is back in the Pee Dee. Parker Moskal said he is bringing hockey back to the Florence Center, where more than 100 people gathered for the April 16 announcement. The Pee Dee professional hockey team will start play in October as a member of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Moskal is the managing ownership partner of the Monroe (La.) Moccasins, which also plays in the FPHL. Moskal is a former professional hockey player.

DARLINGTON — A Pee Dee town of roughly 6,000 might be the most famous place in South Carolina. Darlington's notoriety is fueled by "The Track Too Tough To Tame," which celebrates its 75th birthday in 2025. Twice a year, car-racing fans fill the stands at Darlington Raceway for the Goodyear 400 in spring and the Southern 500 in late summer. Approximately 3 million people also watch the races on television. Race fans have been enjoying Darlington races since the track opened to the public on Aug.
