ASSOCIATED PRESSCLEVELAND, Ohio — In an offseason dotted with departures, the Cavs have made an addition to their coaching staff. A familiar one. With deep local roots. The Cleveland Cavaliers want to re-sign Ty Jerome this offseason. The Cavaliers would also like to retain Sam Merrill, if possible. The challenge for Cleveland is that their payroll is already extremely high without either free agent guard in the fold. The Cavs project to open the offseason approximately $31 million over the luxury tax line. Cleveland also projects to be approximately $14 million over the second apron before re-signing any free agents and filling out their roster.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs’ offseason, which began months earlier than anyone in the organization imagined, is well underway. With roster-related uncertainty, salary cap limitations and mirror tests, this summer could shape Cleveland’s future and determine whether it can truly take the next step. NBA Draft (the Cavs have two second-round picks and workouts started weeks ago). Free agency. (Rotational mainstays Ty Jerome and Sam Merrill are both unrestricted).

So far this offseason, #Cavs have lost Cleveland Charge head coach Chris Darnell (Sacramento), assistant Bryan Tibaldi (Providence College), assistant Jordan Ott (Phoenix) and assistant DeMarre Carroll (Phoenix).

Since Jordan Ott was named new Suns head coach, #Cavs were anticipating Ott taking some Cleveland assistants with him to Phoenix. A source says DeMarre Carroll will join the Suns as an assistant. Carroll may not be the only one Ott takes with him.
