JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Several Johnson City residents have received letters regarding potential lead exposure in their water, but a city spokesperson said the notices are not an indicator that water is unsafe. The notices state the Johnson City Water and Sewer Services Department must notify residents when a service line that could lead to “elevated lead exposure” is identified.

(WJHL)- News Channel 11 spent the day with Unicoi County Emergency Management Director Jimmy Erwin to talk about the devastating flood that hit the county. “It will take us at least a year to get this debris to move, and it’ll take us five years to get all of our infrastructure back and going,” Erwin said. In his 30-year career, he’s been deployed to many disasters, but not one like this, especially in his own county.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — News Channel 11 has captured video from the sky of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene. On Tuesday, Drone 11 flew over parts of Washington County, Tennessee along the Nolichucky River, which swelled to record levels and washed away several bridges. In the video above, viewers can see damage to the Jackson Bridge and the south side of Jackson Bridge Road.

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Trees were down along some state routes in Greene County early Friday morning, according to the county’s emergency management agency (EMA) director. EMA Director Heather Sipe told News Channel 11 that as of 6:20 a.m., crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) were working to remove trees that had fallen over state routes. As of 6:20 a.m., Sipe said 435 people were without power in Greene County.
