TOMS RIVER – A local man allegedly had meth, marijuana, and cocaine in a home police said he used for drug dealing. Jonathan Acosta, 39, of Toms River, was under police surveillance and was pulled over. They searched his home and allegedly found 21 grams of methamphetamine, approximately one-half pound of marijuana, a quantity of cocaine, and materials indicative of narcotics distribution.

BERKELEY – When you pass through the Central Regional Middle School library, there’s a sign telling you to be quiet. But there are ways to communicate without making a sound. Students at both the middle and high schools have been learning American Sign Language to better interact with those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The idea started as a club during the height of the pandemic and now it has grown to a 10-week program.

BERKELEY – A veterans village of 124 new homes as well as veteran services will break ground in a ceremony at the corner of Route 9 and Sloop Creek Road. The village is being built by Tunnel To Towers, a nonprofit with the goal to make sure no veterans go homeless. The development will be 99 apartments and 25 single-family homes. There will also be services provided on site for the veterans, such as case management, behavioral health and financial literacy.

MANCHESTER – An unforgettable morning raised money so that local children will have an unforgettable night. At the Penguin Plunge, three dozen volunteers leaped into the cold waters of Harry Wright Lake. They raised money for the special needs students of Regional Day School to have a prom at the end of the school year. The school is located in Jackson but is a division of the Manchester School District. Before the plunge, folks gathered around, getting themselves psyched up.
