THREATENING a woman with a knife in a home resulted in a New Milton man being told to undergo rehabilitation activity. Alan White (59), of Angel Lane, admitted unlawfully and intentionally threatening the victim with an offensive weapon at a Bournemouth address on 23rd March. Poole magistrates heard there was an immediate risk of serious physical harm to the woman.

NEW Milton Rugby Club hailed the “incredible” achievements of its popular fundraising event organiser as he stepped down after 14 years. Matt Wale has masterminded the running of 12 New Forest Family Fun Days – with two barren years during the Covid pandemic – and seen more than £100,000 raised for the club and community. Thousands flocked to its Ashley recreation ground base on Saturday for his last annual event before passing on the baton.

MYSTERY still surrounds bird deaths at a New Milton beauty spot after an exclusion zone prompted by avian flu in and around Christchurch lifted. New Milton Town Council’s estates and facilities manager, Mark Jeffries, confirmed to the A&T this week that results of tests were still awaited from DEFRA. As reported, this follows the discovery of a number of carcasses at Ballard Lake, off Lake Grove Road and Fernhill Lane on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June.

A SMALL community bowling club was left counting the costs after raiders stole equipment and charity money in an early-hours break-in. Braeside Bowling Club, off Braeside Road at St Leonards, near Ringwood, is believed to have been targeted between 2am and 4am on Thursday 12th June. Club secretary Paul Laird estimated the burglary would cost it a total of between £4,000 and £5,000. “We’re really frustrated,” he told the A&T. “We work hard and don’t have a lot of resources.

DOZENS of green-fingered residents gathered for the long-awaited opening of the New Milton Community Garden, five years in the making. Town mayor Cllr Alvin Reid was on hand to cut the ribbon to the facility at Fawcett’s Field, off Moore Close. It is now available for volunteers, users, groups and schools from across the town, with a variety of workshops and ventures planned for the future.
