(EDMOND, Okla.) A former Central state golf champion has just one her first NCAA Division II Central Regional championship. University of Arkansas—Fort Smith freshman won the Division II Central Regional Wednesday. Perry finished 1-under for the tournament and won the championship in a playoff. (ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Jeffrey Johnston has four career wins as a Missouri Western Griffon and this weekend, he has a chance to win his fifth on his home course in the NCAA Regional. The NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional starts Thursday at the St. Joseph Country Club and Johnston has had success on the course. In his college career, Johnston has won four tournaments including two at the St. Joseph Country Club.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Less than a week after making his first Major-League start, Noah Cameron's Royals jersey is flying off the shelves in St. Joseph. Rally House had just one white-colored Cameron jersey on the shelves Tuesday afternoon and store personnel said they are looking to potentially ordering more. The St. Joseph native made his MLB debut in a spot start for the Kansas City Royals last Wednesday. You can find Cameron's jersey in white or powder blue here.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The Benton High School football program is looking for a new head coach. Corey Bertini announced he was stepping down as the head football coach this week and said it wasn't an easy decision to leave the program. Bertini took over the program in 2023 after serving as an assistant coach on the southside. The Cardinals went 4-16 in his two seasons as the head coach. He played college football at Missouri Western. Bertini stepped down to take a job in the Kansas City area.
Cameron back on the mound for AAA-Omaha Tuesday night

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) After making a splash in his Major-League debut last Wednesday, St. Joseph native and Royals pitcher Noah Cameron back on the bump Tuesday night for AAA-Omaha. Cameron will go against the Louisville Bats. The left-handed pitcher is 2-0 with a 3.22 ERA and 27 strikeouts in Omaha this season. Cameron impressed in his Major League debut last week against the Rays. He threw 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball and took a no-hitter into the seventh.
Local tennis standouts win district titles; advance to state tournament

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A few local high school tennis standouts punched their tickets to the state tournament. In Class 1 District 8, Benton's Ridge Stagner defeated Kirksville's Quinton Dorrell in the district title game—7-6 (7-3), 6-1. As for Class 1 District 8 doubles, Maryville's Kyler Skidmore and William Sheil defeated Savannah's Aidan Davies and Grayson Matthews to win the district championship—6-7(2-7), 6-4, 10-8. Both doubles teams will head to the state tournament.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Benton High School baseball coach Johnny Coy was awarded an annual local honor Wednesday night. Coy was named the St. Joseph Sports Inc. 2025 Coach of the Year. "It's really humbling," Coy said. "There are so many coaches in St. Joe that weren't even nominated, but probably should have been. This is an award for all of the coaches that put so much time and effort into coaching.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) During the 2025 St. Joseph Sports Inc. honors event with the St. Joseph, Mo. Sports Commission Thursday night, two high school seniors were awarded scholarships and named scholar-athlete award winners. Benton senior Emma Loehnig was named the Female Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and Bishop LeBlond's Jacob Winkelbauer was named the Male Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. Each of the five city high schools had a male and female nominated for the scholar athlete award.
Cameron records win in Major League debut

(TAMPA, Fla.) Kansas City Royals rookie and St. Joseph native Noah Cameron has started his Major League career with a win. Cameron (1-0) went 6.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three in the Royals' 3-0 win Wednesday night. The left-handed rookie didn't allow a hit until the seventh inning. Cameron made his Major League debut after Royals' ace Cole Ragans was going to miss his scheduled start due to an injury.
