We have all been there - at the "easy" hike your friend found on the internet. The only issue is...it is NOT easy, and you are now looking up at a massive mountain you did not prepare for. Picking out the RIGHT hiking trail is critical. Many inexperienced hikers (we all start somewhere) will Google a mountain they want to hike, or type in "easy hikes near XYZ" and go for whatever they see first. If you know the area or mountain you want to hike, I always suggest using the website AllTrails.

Maine may be a small state, but it certainly doesn't lack the finer things in life. This includes higher education—a subject that is near and dear to many Mainers. According to the U.S. Census, over 35% of Maine residents hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. That’s good enough to rank 18th in the country and places the state above the national average. Clearly, Maine values higher education.

By no means is Baxter State Park a hidden gem; it's a well-known landmark in Maine. However, it's fair to say that it often takes a backseat to its cousin, Acadia National Park. Not that there's anything wrong with that, Acadia is one of the premier national parks in the United States. That said, I would argue that Baxter State Park is one of the finest parks in America. It's home to Mount Katahdin and marks the northern terminus of the legendary Appalachian Trail.

Maine State Police have arrested a man they say deliberately set fire to a small building in Lewiston's Veterans Park on Main Street Wednesday. Fire personnel were dispatched to the area around 9 PM to extinguish a fire in an outbuilding on the premises. Once they got it under control, firefighters called the State Fire Marshal's Office to determine the cause of the fire. The building was not wired for electricity, so that was ruled out.

I am not a fancy gal. I have been to exactly one high-end five-star "dining establishment," and the entire time I was there, it felt stuffy and uncomfortable, and I felt entirely out of place. There is nothing I enjoy more than a good hole-in-the-wall restaurant where the food is good, the prices aren't outrageous, and there's character or a character around every corner. These, in this lady's humble opinion, are 5 of the best "hole-in-the-wall" spots in Eastern Maine.
