York boys sixth at Central Conference golf

GRAND ISLAND — The York boys were back in action on the golf links Friday, as the Dukes hit the road to test their mettle against the Central Conference field at the conference meet, hosted by Northwest at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island. The York contingent was headlined by a very successful outing from Jaxson Hinze, who successfully defended his individual title and helped his Dukes land sixth in the team race.

COLUMBUS — In the end, the York girls had everything remaining on the table Saturday as they hit the road for the B-2 district finals. Only 16 teams per class even make it that far, getting the right to play one game with a spot in the state tournament up for grabs. However, the Dukes knew the road was not going to be remotely easy.
Panthers, Broncos compete at Fillmore Central invite

GENEVA — The Fillmore Central track teams were in action Thursday at their host invite, with Centennial also competing against the eight-team field. David City won the girls title with 103 points, while the Broncos were second with 93. Finishing seventh was Fillmore Central with 40. On the boys side, it was Thayer Central getting the win with 98 points and Centennial third with 78. Fillmore Central was fifth with 60.
Area athletes compete at Cross County

STROMSBURG — Four area teams were in action Thursday for the Cross County invite as Exeter-Milligan/Friend, Heartland and Hampton were also among the nine other schools the Cougars invited to compete. The Huskie boys made the most of the trip, rolling to the team title with 123 points ahead of runner-up East Butler with 109. Cross County was fourth and EMF sixth on the boys side while Hampton had three points. For the girls, Osceola edged out Nebraska Christian for the win, 121 to 115.
Mustangs host Paul Underwood meet

MCCOOL JUNCTION — It was a successful day on the track for McCool Junction as they hosted their annual Paul Underwood meet Thursday. The boys blew out the rest of the competition and rolled to the team title with 214 points while the girls were second with 124. Nebraska Lutheran was also in action; the Knights took third in both team races. On the boys side, McCool went 2-3-4 in the 100 as Marcus Chambers, Ja Soukup and Colby Yates clocked in at 11.81, 11.82 and 11.83 seconds.
York girls to battle Scotus for state berth

COLUMBUS — If you were to pick out a single word to describe the York girls soccer season, 'predictable' likely would not be one of them. The Dukes' roller-coaster ride of a campaign even began with a wave of unpredictability, as a snowstorm delayed the start of the season by a week. Instead of kicking the year off with a home game against Kearney Catholic and their host invite, the Dukes instead opened the following week with road trips to Lexington and Beatrice.

York girls fourth at host tennis invite

YORK — The Dukes' busy week on the tennis courts continued in full force Thursday as the York girls welcomed five other schools to town for their host invite. That came off the heels of Wednesday's home dual with Omaha Brownell-Talbot/Concordia, capping a stretch of three competitions in four days for head coach Josh Miller's crew. The team race Thursday proved to be close - too close to call, as it turned out. Waverly and Gothenburg both racked up 23 points to land in a tie atop the leaderboard.
