YORK — The York girls had found a run of success on the soccer pitch in recent outings, bouncing back from a three-game skid with a pair of wins over Central Conference rivals Lakeview and Seward by 3-0 and 2-0 margins, respectively, in the leadup to this week’s conference tournament. The Dukes’ efforts were enough to put them in position to host on the opening day of the tournament Thursday as they welcomed the Aurora Huskies to town for a quarterfinal matchup.

YORK — Things got off to an inauspicious start for York on the diamond Thursday evening, as Seward junior Brycen Burt cranked the second pitch of the ballgame well over the left-field wall for a leadoff homer. Staked to an early 1-0 lead courtesy of the solo shot, the Bluejays tacked on two more in the top of the second as they jumped on the Dukes' starter Thomas Bonde early for the quick 3-0 advantage.

CENTRAL CITY — The York boys and girls hit the road Thursday for their second meet of the week, but it was a bit of a tag-team effort for the Dukes as most of the underclassmen competed in Columbus while the upperclassmen and a few others made the trek to Central City. Despite not having their full lineup available, York still put up a respectable showing at the Bison's host invite. Waverly swept the team titles in a rout on both ends as the girls racked up 148 points and the boys had 154.

DESHLER — The Exeter-Milligan/Friend track teams hit the road Thursday as the Bobcats made the trek south to compete against the field at the Deshler invite. Thayer Central swept both team titles as the Titan girls racked up 120.75 points and the boys squad put up 119.5, but it was a good day for both EMF contingents as the girls brought home the runner-up finish with 110 points in a competitive race with Thayer Central.

GENEVA — The Heartland boys hit the road for the first of two straight days of competition Tuesday for the Fillmore Central invite at Hidden Hills Country Club. There, the Huskies tied for second with Deshler as they both posted a 372, but it was Heartland who took third on tiebreak. Sutton won the invite with a 346. Host Fillmore Central was fourth with a 379. Sutton’s Jayden Friesen was the individual champion with a 77, but the Huskies’ Crieghton Friesen finished in silver position with an 83.
