I'm not really a fan of dark and grisly tales but I am a huge fan of this talented theatre company and I'm happy to say their production of Dracula had me enthralled – if a little terrified at times. With a 13-strong cast, the play opens with the funeral of Lucy Westenra, her death is a mystery as are the two tiny puncture wounds in her neck. The dark and disturbing puzzle of her demise is unravelled in a narrative related through letters and diary entries.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula, adapted by Richard Sharp, follows the innocent Jonathan Harker on a nightmarish journey through the gloom of the gothic tale.

2 1/1 A powerful and poignant play about forced adoption was sympathetically brought to the Studio Theatre stage last week. Be My Baby, written by Amanda Whittington, is set in the early 1960s but is still relevant today. Studio Theatre’s thought-provoking and humorous interpretation featured an all-female cast.

With all the depressing events occurring in the news, it was a real tonic to visit the Playhouse to watch their hilarious stage adaption of The 39 Steps. Following the storyline of John Buchan’s iconic spy thriller, four talented actors play more than 150 characters in this crazy, comic interpretation by Patrick Barlow. Dashing Richard Hannay finds himself caught up in a murder with all the evidence pointing at him.
