A York County doctor was charged with rape, sexual extortion and dozens of other crimes after investigators say he used his position prescribing methadone to sexually abuse drug-addicted women. Christopher J. Davis, 63, solicited nude photos and coerced methadone patients into sexual acts in exchange for him continuing to authorize their access to drug treatment medications, according to the state attorney general’s office. Methadone helps to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings for opioids.

A woman caught in the crossfire of a dispute to which she had no part in 2015 died last year in a homicide case that remains unsolved. The death of Janae L. Williams, 37, in August at a rehabilitation center was ruled a homicide, stemming from the gunshot wound to her head in the early hours of Jan. 15, 2015 in the 500 block of Schuylkill Street outside the Royal Pub bar. The bar later permanently closed.

DNA helped police identify a suspect in a cold case killing that investigators say occurred after a burglar barged into a downtown Lancaster apartment in 2013, officials announced Friday. Investigators assigned to the cold case had items collected from the homicide scene, but not previously tested, sent to the state police lab where they say they found a link to Shawn D. Jones, 54, who has a history of theft and burglary convictions.

The fire was first noticed by a neighbor at 2:44 a.m., who banged on the doors in the first block of North 12th Street to awaken the residents. The residents were able to safely escape.
