A bill in the New Jersey General Assembly aims to protect all renters from “unconscionable” rent hikes. The measure, now in an Assembly committee and sponsored by Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-9) of Middlesex County, seeks to shield renters from “large, predatory rent increases and prevent bad actors from taking advantage of renters.”A similar bill, which has passed both houses, would restrict lot rent increases for mobile or manufactured home owners.

RIO GRANDE – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill landed in Cape May County on Wednesday, on her way to the June 10 primary election. Sherrill, a member of the House of Representatives since 2019, is a lawyer and former prosecutor and was a Navy helicopter pilot. She is one of six Democratic candidates facing off in her party’s primary and is seen as the front-runner, based on recent polls. Her Republican counterpart, leading in GOP polls, is Jack Ciattarelli.

PETERSBURG – The Upper Township Committee on May 27 honored three of its EMS workers, who received the Shore Medical Center Clinical Excellence Award for their efforts in responding to an unconscious person at a Seaville residence. On Dec. 29, 2024, an Upper Township EMS crew consisting of EMT Anthony Lamanna, EMT Ryan Schaefer and Upper Township Rescue Squad volunteer Abrianna Hoover responded to a critical respiratory emergency at a residence in Seaville.

WILDWOOD – Ed Dixon is a man on a mission, seeking to have local towns dedicate the month of August each year to remembering military veterans. Dixon is a Navy veteran who served not only in the Vietnam War era, but during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which lasted for 13 days in October 1962. He visited the Wildwood Board of Commissioners meeting May 14 and expressed his desire to have the entire month of August dedicated to veterans. “Why August?” Mayor Ernie Troiano asked him.
