Sending her twin 6½-year-olds to school, Katjusa Cisar had always assumed the building was free of common environmental hazards. Then she learned Trowbridge School of Great Lakes Studies, the 1894 building where her twins attend, would close temporarily due to lead safety concerns. At least one district child's poisoning has been directly linked to another MPS school, and seven buildings so far have been found with dangerous levels of lead paint and dust.

"I don't want to have to send his little 3-year-old self (to school) with a bag of water every day and tell him, 'You can't touch the bubbler,'" she said.
