    The Duncan Optimist Club will host a night of music for the whole family to raise money for its scholarship fund and more. Club president Ray Christian said the club was moving on to more than just nut sales. “We were sitting around talking about it (fundraising).     A community staple for summer is back in the water once again. The Chisholm Trail Kiwanis Club announced sign up days for their community outreach of swimming lessons for area youth. Club president Kory Belveal said the club took over the swimming lessons after another organization left Duncan in the mid-80s. “At the time the community and club identified that it was still important to have swimming lessons for the children,” he said. “We’ve been doing it ever since.

    COMANCHE — The City of Comanche made a change in their insurance and were honored for their power system during their latest city council meeting. City manager Chuck Ralls explained to the councilors after switching insurances from Blue Cross and Blue Shield to Municipal Health last year, which took effect January 2024, that this month, Municipal Health announced they were closing. "They were going to save us a lot of money," said Ralls.

    COMANCHE — The City of Comanche received an unpleasant email from one of their vendors – Waste Connections — which ultimately led City Council to hike service rates as a result. City Manger Chuck Ralls said he got the email on April 1 and thought it was a joke but sadly, it wasn’t. “Waste connections is passing along, in accordance with their contract, they have the ability to pass along up to 100% of the consumer price index (CPI),” he said. “This year was 3.1%.

    As part of the regular meeting of the Duncan Public Schools Board of Education, staffing decisions are made every month, including retirements, hiring and firings. April’s meeting saw a slight change from the routine with the termination of transportation director LeeAnn Millan, effective April 8. The board went into executive session for the staffing issues. After the board returned, board member Carl Buckholts read the statement of facts.
