“Five, six, seven, eight!” This call to order invigorates the otherwise quiet and corporate interior of the Healey Family Student Center (HFSC). Heels clack against the hardwood in sync. Lively gritos echo throughout the building. Vibrant ruffled skirts fan out with every spin, imposing themselves on the greige walls of the HFSC dance studio and hypnotizing all who pass by.

After classes end for the day, the dingy rooms in the bowels of the Davis Performing Arts Center typically remain empty and darkened, often overlooked and underutilized by students searching for a quiet corner to study in. For the past two weeks, however, those same spaces have instead been revived by rhythmic Afrobeats, African high fashion, and jovial cheers as the ABISSA 2024 performers rehearse for their April 13 show.

Walking into AMC Georgetown on a sunny Monday afternoon, I was completely unprepared to be transported into the jaw dropping, mind-bending universe of Dune: Part Two. This movie shook me to my core not just emotionally, but physically too. The soundscape was so thrillingly loud that at certain points I was nervous that the speakers would combust; the bass turned my seat into a massage chair.
