BOSTON, Massachusetts (WABI) - Just hours after the Boston Red Sox completed their sweep of the New York Yankees they made a blockbuster trade. The Red Sox are sending Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. According to Jeff Passan, the Red Sox are acquiring Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and Jose Bello. The Red Sox signed Devers to a 10-year extension worth $313.5 million back in January of 2023. The 28-year-old first signed with the Red Sox in 2013 when he was just 16.

HERMON, Maine (WABI) - For the second year in a row, the Bangor Lions Club held their annual golf tournament at Hermon Meadow Golf Club. Seventeen teams took part in Friday’s event that raised money for a new vision screening machine for local children under the age of five. The Lions Club wanted to fundraise after they heard about a local child who lost one of their eyes to cancer. “Bangor Lions International, is all about vision, providing glasses to people that can’t afford them.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - “It all started because somebody said that I couldn’t do it,” said Mike Laliberte. Mike Laliberte began a challenge back in 2015, flipping a 400-pound tire for a mile. After a few years, the challenge took on a new meaning. “I met Doc Goodwin at the gym and we got talking. And this is our fourth-year fundraising for Maine Veterans Project,” Laliberte said. In the last few years, they’ve raised a total of $100,000. “This year we’re shooting for $50,000” said Laliberte.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Last month, we told you about the extensive renovations the Challenger Learning Center in Bangor underwent. On Wednesday they held a grand reopening ceremony with a handful of guests who got to take part in one of the center’s simulated missions. The renovations, which took three months to complete, were made possible due to a $2.2 million Congressionally directed spending award, and over $876,000 in community contributions.

LEWISTON, BAR HARBOR, OAKLAND, Maine (WABI) - The State Outdoor Track & Field Championships were contested across the state on Tuesday. Class A was able to complete all but the boys and girls high jump events in Lewiston. The high jump event area was too wet for competition, so it was postponed until Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Edward Little High School.
