Nurses rally against closure of MDI Hospital’s OB department

BAR HARBOR, Maine (WABI) - “Taking away our OB department is putting the women who actually live here and who depend on this hospital in a horrible situation,” said Portia Judson, a registered nurse. Another effort to reverse the decision of closing Mount Desert Island Hospitals obstetrics department took place in Bar Harbor. Nurses, concerned community members and even mothers waved signs and shouted chants to let the region know it could be a harmful move to close the facility on July 1.

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) - For the third time in four years the Maine Maritime Men’s Lacrosse team are champions of the North Atlantic Conference. On Sunday the Mariners hosted SUNY Delhi in a rematch of the 2023 NAC Championship. Maine Maritime began the game slow, falling into a 5-0 deficit late into the second quarter. The Mariners fired back with four goals in the last four minutes of the first half to enter the break down 7-4.
Husson Women’s Lacrosse wins NAC Championship over Mariners 12-11

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) - On Saturday the Husson Eagles took on the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners in the 2025 North Atlantic Conference Championship. The Eagles controlled the first half, going into the half up 6-2. In the third quarter the Mariners rallied, outscoring the Eagles 8-1. Husson returned with a comeback of their own scoring 5 goals in the quarter including the game winner from Averi Baker with 0:23 left in regulation.

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) - A year after being denied a three-peat the Maine Maritime Men’s Lacrosse team will play for their third NAC Title in four years. On Saturday the Mariners hosted the Husson Eagles for the NAC Semifinals. Maine Maritime dominated the first half, outscoring Husson 16-4. While the Eagles were able to pick things up offensively in the second half the Mariner offense kept pace. Maine Maritime took the contest 28-12 behind a 7-goal game from Tobey Lappin.
Over 125 students take part in Positive Action Team Summit

GUILFORD, Maine (WABI) - About 125 students took part in an annual summit in Guilford Friday. Hosted by Piscataquis Community Secondary School, the Positive Action Team Summit focuses on issues such as substance abuse, community leadership, and mental health. In Piscataquis County, every school has a Positive Action Team that works to bring positive changes to their school. The summit is run by Northern Light and it’s partly put on to celebrate the work those actions teams do.

With spring finally arriving to the coast of Maine, the Smiling Cow has officially opened for the season. But for the first time in 45 years there’s a new owner at the helm. “It was started by my grandmother and then my parents and then me for the last 45 years and as of last Friday, we had a closing and sold the business to my nephew, David,” said Quijano.
Hermon High Students teach financial literacy to elementary students
