DENVER — The ingredients for large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are coming together for the northeastern plains on Sunday. Watch for rotating storms known as supercells to form around 2 p.m. and move northeast towards Nebraska impacting places like Akron, Sterling, Yuma, Wray and Holyoke.

A very wintery pattern is developing with several snow chances through the week. Winter weather advisories cover most of the Colorado mountains from 11am Sunday to 11am Monday. 3 to 10 inches of snow is expected for most locations including the Front Range foothills from 7,000 to 9,000 feet. Most of us on the Front Range might not even notice the storm until after the sun sets tonight when scattered rain showers could cover parts of the area from 6pm to midnight.

The high temperature in Denver could hit 90 degrees on Sunday as summer weather hangs on for a few more days. That would be the 58th 90-degree day of the year if it does end up that warm and bring us closer to making the top 5 most of all-time. Also expect a dry day with a slight haze from wildfire smoke filtering in from the Pacific Northwest. There will be another round of scattered thunderstorms in the mountains starting in the early afternoon and lasting to about sunset.

FORECAST AT A GLANCE: Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Sunday with warm temperatures reaching the middle 70' on the Front Range. Winds could be an issue for some areas as breezy conditions are expected to last until after sunset. Wind gusts will mainly be in the 15-25 mph range. The Front Range mountains and foothills could have gusts near 40 mph. If you have outdoor plans for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, they should be just fine.
