DENVER — FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Cory Reppenhagen and Keely ChalmersWe are waking up to extremely cold temperatures and windchills. Another wave of snow comes late tonight.  The next 48 hours are going to be brutally cold. The temperatures on the Front Range will all be below zero this morning, while the wind chill temperatures are in the -15 to -25 degree range. It only takes about 30 minutes of exposure to bare skin to cause frostbite when it's that cold.

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures continue across Colorado through the next several days. To the west, gusty winds continue along the foothills and the mountain peaks through midday today, gusting up to 50 mph. Those winds will start to diminish this afternoon and evening. Winds will remain calm across the plains. Today and tomorrow, sunny skies stick around, with afternoon highs slightly above-average, in the lower 50s. Even warmer weather will build-in for Tuesday.

We are in store for another sunny and mild afternoon across the metro area and plains today. Today and tomorrow, afternoon highs return to seasonal numbers, in the upper 40s. The front range/plains are looking to stay sunny and mostly calm, but to the west, watch for strong winds along the foothills, gusting up to and over 60 mph this morning. The winds in the foothills will diminish later this morning, but they will pick up again tomorrow.

Sunday is shaping up to be another sunny and seasonal day, with afternoon highs staying in the lower to middle 50s. Sunny, seasonal weather sticks around for Monday, although the winds will pick up ahead of a weak storm moving in from the west. Temperatures drop significantly on Tuesday as that storm moves in. Light snow will start falling in the mountains Monday afternoon. By Tuesday afternoon, the much colder system moves east over the plains, dropping highs into the upper 30s.

A very wintery pattern is developing with several snow chances through the week. Winter weather advisories cover most of the Colorado mountains from 11am Sunday to 11am Monday. 3 to 10 inches of snow is expected for most locations including the Front Range foothills from 7,000 to 9,000 feet. Most of us on the Front Range might not even notice the storm until after the sun sets tonight when scattered rain showers could cover parts of the area from 6pm to midnight.
