Some five years later, the driver who left her there has been charged with criminal endangerment. Nonprofit arts organizations across Montana began receiving notices this month that approved grants from the National Endowment for the Arts had been canceled, in some cases long after planning and programs had already begun. In Helena, the Myrna Loy theater lost more than $87,000 in grants for special projects like an Indigenous arts celebration and a performance on the experience of Black artists in Montana history.

Free Cycles Missoula wants to pay off its mortgage and secure its property forever. The nonprofit community bike shop, where anyone can do a little volunteer work and pedal away a refurbished form of green transportation, is launching a campaign on Friday to pay off the rest of its debt. Their goal is to raise $800,000 by July 1, 2026, the 30th anniversary of the nonprofit, to secure its home and expand its services and hours. “This is for everyone,” said Bob Giordano, executive director.
