The Missoula City Council approved a massive senior living apartment complex Monday night, which some officials hoped will help ease the housing crunch for older people looking to downsize from their homes. The council unanimously approved the Affinity development, a single 170-unit building and several support structures meant for those first entering retirement. "Missoula has a subset of our population who are very over-housed," City Councilor Mike Nugent said.

The Missoula County Commissioners approved donating $125,000 to the Johnson Street Housing Sprint Fund on Tuesday meant to find new living arrangements for shelter guests. The donation is the largest contribution to the campaign since Missoula Mayor Andrea Davis announced the plan in March, which aims to rehouse roughly 160 shelter guests as the city strategically winds down shelter operations. The county donation comes from a "remittance" via the Missoula Redevelopment Agency.

Residents in Missoula's University District, parts of the South Hills and Pattee Canyon will soon need bear-resistant trash cans to comply with the next expansion of the city's "Bear Buffer Zone."The regulations are meant to limit wildlife access to trash and limit human bear conflicts near the edges of the city. Missoula's Rattlesnake and Grant Creek neighborhoods were placed in a buffer in 2024.
