Girl Scouts from the Mountains to the Midlands hosted the event at the Cathy Novinger Girl Scout Leadership Center. Officials say research shows a troubling confidence gap among girls and increasing levels of stress, pressure, and anxiety. Those we spoke with say action must be taken to help girls in South Carolina.
SC Legislative session set to end today

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)- Out of the SC State House, the clock is ticking on this year’s legislative session, which ends today May 8, 2025. Lawmakers are still finalizing the state’s 14.4 billion dollar budget plan, which is set to go into effect July 1. The budget proposed includes a $1,500 raise for all teachers and a pay raise for legislators. Among other bills lawmakers have not yet passed, the Hate Crime bill and Energy reform bill.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–Time is up. Today is the deadline to get a REAL ID. Beginning May 7, 2025 you will need a REAL ID to fly, enter a federal building, or go onto a military base. After years of pushing the deadline back, the Department of Homeland Security is enforcing the deadline. If you don’t have a REAL ID or another accepted form of identification, such as a passport, you will likely face delays at airport security. You will not, however, need a REAL ID id to drive, vote, or apply for benefits.

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–The latest on a murder investigation in the City of Columbia: The father of the victim is speaking out. Stephen Federico spoke briefly about the loss of his daughter, 22-year-old Logan Federico. Federico was found shot to death inside a Cypress Street home in Columbia Saturday. She was on a weekend trip from Waxhaw, North Carolina, visiting friends. Police arrested 30-year-old Alexander Dickey in connection with her death.

Columbia Fire battles Two-alarm condo fire

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)— Columbia Fire officials say three people were injured and taken to the hospital Saturday due to a two alarm fire. According to Columbia Firefighters, they responded to a fire at the Briargate Condominiums off Broad River Road Saturday around 2:40pm. Officials say twelve of the buildings 24 units were destroyed by fire, smoke or water damage. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries but are expected to be ok say officials.
Coroner identifies 20 year old shooting victim found on roadside in Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG, SC (WOLO)– The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting death of a 20 year old male, whose body was found by the roadside, on Saturday. According to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle, 20 year old O’Brian Grant, of Resort St. Santee, SC was pronounced dead on scene. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
