COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– If you see smoke in the air across the Midlands, don’t worry. Congaree National Park is conducting a prescribed burn April 14-16. A park spokesperson says they plan on burning away underbrush on more than 900 acres, that would serve as fuel in the event of a wildfire. According to the South Carolina Forestry Commission nearly 400 wildfires broke out in the state last month.

Burning Ban in SC lifted for 41 counties COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)–The statewide burn ban has been lifted for all but five counties. The South Carolina Forestry Commission says Greenville, Horry, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties will remain under the burning ban until further notice.

PICKENS, SC (WOLO)–South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster held a briefing Friday from Table Rock Park on the wildfires in Pickens and Greenville counties. According to McMaster, the state has never had a fire like this; McMaster went on to say ‘what we are facing might be the perfect fire’ with a lot of factors contributing to the blaze. The fire is not contained. But the governor did say the state is fortunate that no structures have been lost.
