Edmund Richard Gibson was born on Aug. 6, 1892, in Tekamah, Nebraska. There, he learned to ride a horse as a young boy. Gibson’s family moved to California when he was 7 years old, and as a teenager he worked with horses on a ranch, which led to competition on bucking broncos at area rodeos. Given the nickname “Hoot Owl” by co-workers, the name evolved to just “Hoot.” The name came from when Gibson picked up the nickname ‘Hoot’ while working as a bicycle messenger for Owl Drug Company.

A custody battle between a Santa Clarita foster family and a biological family over a 6-year-old girl wages on. The foster parents, Summer and Rusty Page, raised the foster child known as “Lexi” since she was 2 years old. Lexi’s early childhood was an unhappy one. She was removed from her mother’s custody when she was 17 months old because of “a lengthy substance abuse problem,” according to court records. Her mother had also lost custody of at least six other children.

Bubba arrived at the Castaic Animal Care Center in February and is looking for a forever family. “Bubba is happy, sweet and fun loving and seeks out attention and affection,” said volunteers with the Castaic Animal Care Center. Bubba is 2-years-old, 63 pound, black and white, male, Alaskan Husky with blue eyes who is available for adoption and ready for a forever home. Bubba walks well on a leash and already knows how to sit and loves his treats too.

Landfill operations can cause odors, particularly as waste decomposes and if not well controlled. Since January 2023, South Coast AQMD has received over 4,000 odor complaints from nearby residents and an elementary school regarding Sunshine Canyon Landfill. During this period, South Coast AQMD has issued more than 150 Notices of Violation (NOVs) against the landfill for public nuisance, citing violations of the agency’s Rule 402 and California Health & Safety Code Section 41700.
