David DePape, who broke into the San Francisco home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi, was convicted by a California court Friday. DePape was separately convicted in federal court last year and given a 30-year sentence for charges related to the 2022 attack.

It had been several days since anyone had heard from Downieville resident Patrice Miller. Miller, 71, lived alone with two cats in a dilapidated yellow rental house near the heart of the small mountain town, across the street from the county courthouse. She mostly kept to herself, growing orchids and house plants, and got around with the aid of a walking stick, having endured multiple organ failures earlier in life.

UC Berkeley’s campus-wide commencement began peacefully Saturday morning but soon was disrupted by hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters, mostly graduates in cap and gown, who gathered in one area of Memorial Stadium to chant. Though many universities nationwide altered or canceled commencement ceremonies in the wake of campus encampments protesting Israel’s war with Hamas, UC Berkeley’s graduation went on as planned.

San Francisco filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the city of Oakland and its port commission Thursday over a planned name change for the Oakland airport to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport. The lawsuit asks the court for an injunction preventing Oakland airport from moving forward with the plan and seeks a ruling that the proposed name is a violation of San Francisco International Airport’s trademark.
