Two in custody after chase and crash ending in Landsdowne neighborhood

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Two people have been taken into custody after a pursuit that ended with a crash in the Landsdowne neighborhood on Sunday, April 27 according to the Carolina Beach Police Department. According to Sgt. Edens with the Carolina Beach Police Department, the chase started when the suspect fled from a traffic stop. The vehicle then led police on a chase before crashing at the entrance to Landsdowne, that’s when the suspects fled on foot.
Southport police officers help relocate alligator found in a backyard

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) -Southport Police Department officers responded to a home on W. 11th Street near Caswell Ave. on Sunday, April 27, due to an approximately 12-14- foot alligator. The residents were alerted and the area was secured by officers, and NC Wildlife was notified. According to a post on the Southport Police Department Facebook page, because of the size and lack of equipment for a large gator, NC Wildlife responded. The alligator was safely captured and will be relocated.

SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WECT) - The Town of Shallotte has reported that approximately 12,000 gallons of untreated wastewater discharged from the lift station at 149 Park Drive on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17, for about thirty minutes. “The untreated effluent flowed into an adjacent dry ditch. All loss was immediately recovered with pump trucks and processed for treatment. This notice was required by North Carolina General Statutes, Article 21, Chapter 143.215.1C ,” the notice states.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) -The Surf City Fire Department responded to a swimmer in distress near Beach Access #10 on Saturday at 2:46 p.m., per a town announcement. “When Ocean Rescue personnel arrived, they found bystanders attending to a victim in the water. The bystanders had already started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Rescue personnel started a medical assessment and continued with CPR efforts,” the announcement states.

According to a post by New Hanover County Fire Rescue, the fire happened off of Spring Creek Lane around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17. Residents are being asked to avoid the area at this time. PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) -Pender County crews are on the scene of a woods fire that happened Wednesday night in Hampstead near Sloop Point Loop Rd. According to a Pender County Emergency Management representative, the fire started around 8:00p.m. after lightning struck. No injuries were reported and no home or people are threatened. The North Carolina Forestry Service along with several other fire departments are on the scene of the fire.
