    Lake District Hotels has submitted an application to the Lake District National Park Authority to change the use of Eden Green Guest House at 20 Blencathra Street, Keswick, to a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) for staff. The application states that the mid-terrace, three-storey property's seven bedrooms would remain, and that the former B and B would be able to house ten employees. Eden Green guest house stopped trading in November 2024.

    Ian Robert Hodgson, of St Andrews Road in Stainburn, died in the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle on March 22, 2025. During a hearing at Cockermouth Coroner’s Court, coroner Kirsty Gomersal outlined the known circumstances surrounding Mr Hodgson’s death and explained why an inquest was required. After offering her condolences to Mr Hodgson’s family, Ms Gomersal said: “He had been unwell for a couple of weeks, had a fall at home and was admitted to the Cumberland Infirmary on March 19.

    An application has been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council to change the use of a ten-hectare site to the east of Whitbarrow Farm in Berrier, west of Penrith, from agricultural to allow the siting of 100 timber clad caravans for year-round holiday use. The planning report, prepared by Michael Paul Consultancy and submitted with the application, shows the north-to-south sloping site as lying just tot he east of the Lake District National Park boundary.

    8 1/1 A PROPOSAL has been launched to create a Business Improvement District (BID) in Carlisle. A consortium of business owners and civic stakeholders have formed the 'Great Border City' with the aim of making Carlisle 'the best it can be', on the back of the city-wide infrastructure investment. The Great Border City has unveiled its plans which, if successfully voted in, aim to improve Carlisle as a place to live, work and visit.

    Andrew Agnew, 45, died on May 25, 2025, at his home on Griffin Close in Frizington. Mr Agnew's death was confirmed by paramedics at 7.48pm, and he was identified by his partner, Paula McCrickard. Acting Senior Coroner for Cumbria, Ms Kirsty Gomersal, opened the inquest during a hearing in Cockermouth on June 17, and outlined why an inquest into Mr Agnew's death was required.
